(ABC/Temma Hankin) TOPHER GRACE, KARLA SOUZA

HOME ECONOMICS is back for season 2, and I am always leery of returning hit shows. Can they carry the momentum created last year? This episode started out slowly, and eventually found its rhythm and a huge laugh out-loud moment at the end.

What I like about this very, dry, comedy sitcom is they never forget their tagline…family first. Even when it takes a long time to get to that sappy second, empathy and love is always more important than financial division. The two brothers and one sister have each other’s backs. This is nice to see in today’s world.

Topher Grace (Tom) has his minute of glory in a PEANUTS style football sequence with his brother Connor (Jimmy Tatro.) I enjoyed the quick repartee and banter. It felt natural among siblings, And I loved the total acceptance of “You are who you are.” It was also unreal seeing Tom try to explain football to Jerry Rice. I was squirming in my chair as Tom asked Jerry “What’s your favorite down?” What can you possibly reply. Priceless.

HOME ECONOMICS is not a high-action program. Rather it quietly rolls out its story for all to view, ponder. laugh, and enjoy. So far, so good. I will be back.  It is available to stream on ABC Television.
