THE CRASH was a documentary film based on the true story that took place in Ohio in 2022. A 17 year old teen girl, Mackenzie, drove her car into a brick wall at a speed of close to 100 MPH, instantly killing her boyfriend, Dominic and his friend, Davion. She was convicted of 12 felony counts, but the movie explores the question of whether it was just a horrific accident or murder. It was an intriguing story that will make viewers wonder who was at fault.
THE CRASH presented every side and angle to this tragedy. Audiences will be privy to private texts and videos on social media. The forensic evidence was powerfully detailed and explained. All the parents, family, and friends were subjected to intense interviews. It felt terrible as every piece of this puzzle was put in its proper place for consideration. Even Mackenzie was able to share her side of this tragic tale. It will leave audiences through how it all could have been prevented if parents had applied the brakes on this situation. It showcased every parent’s worst nightmare scenario to evolve on screen. Drugs and a loosely-goosey rein on these young adults led to the end result. I wanted to scream at the parents to not be so naive and trusting. It was devastating.
THE CRASH is well-edited and well done. The pacing will guide viewers through every twist and turn. It will evoke anger and empathy. It’s many thought-provoking moments will demonstrate the hold social media has on developing young minds. It should be seen as a wake-up call, but our society is just not ready. It is a film fill d with constantly making bad choices. What a shame for all the families.
THE CRASH is streaming on Netflix.
