School may be out for summer, but it’s still in session for East High. Here’s a complete breakdown ranking each episode of season two.
The Good:
๐คฉ E1 NEW YEAR’S EVE – There was “Something in the Air” with the series return being “The Perfect Gift.”
๐คฉ E5 THE QUINCEANERO – Carlos and Seb’s emotional “Climb” make this the must-watch episode of season two.
๐คฉ E7 THE FIELD TRIP – In the only episode this season, Derek Hough finally gets to sing and dance!
๐ E11 SHOWTIME for audiences to “Be Our Guest” for the BEAUTY AND THE BEAST curtain call.
๐ E10 THE TRANSFORMATION can’t save this episode from having only one great musical number.
๐ E2 TYPECASTING – Where are the songs?!?!
๐ E9 SPRING BACK – A zoom episode that felt sooooo 2020.
๐ E12 SECOND CHANCES – Eastsiders get a chance for “second acts and new beginnings.”
๐ E3 VALENTINE’S DAY – More filler. And where is Derek Hough!?!
๐ E6 YES, AND…another mediocre episode with hardly any songs.
๐ E8 MOST LIKELY TO love Howie’s rendition of “If I Can’t Love her.”
The Bad:
๐คฎE4 THE STORM – I’m not taking this show for “granted,” yet this was the worst episode of season two.
The Results:
The second season of HSMTMS could’ve been a ๐คฉ. Unfortunately, the lack of focus and songs, coupled with poor writing, stops it from reaching a high note. Yet the lead characters are just so darn earnest it’s hard not to get sucked in and watch the most talked-about show on Disney+ that’s not attached to STAR WARS or MARVEL.
