DISCLAIMER MINI-SERIES REVIEW 😊

Disclaimer: I love Alfonso Cuarón’s movies.

With that “disclaimer” out of the way, I can review his latest work.

DISCLAIMER is an at-times overly sexualized and silly thriller that benefits from award-worthy performances by Cate Blanchett and Leila George (playing a younger version of Blanchett). The show will air weekly in October, but you will want to watch it in as close to one sitting as possible. And that’s because Cuarón’s style is all-consuming, and despite the series being seven episodes, it feels like one overlong film.

The acting, technical aspects, and story are all top-notch and twisted. Yet, the middle episodes extend a bit too long, making the ridiculousness of Kevin Kline’s character overstay his welcome.

If you lower the hype around the cast and director, DISCLAIMER is perfectly fine. It’s not as good as the traditional thriller PRESUMED INNOCENT, but it’s far more well-polished. I recommend watching it. However, I do want to point out that even with an MA-17 rating, episode three is quite sexually explicit. And this isn’t gross sexual exploitation. It’s more sensual – think Y TU MAMA TAMBIEN times ten. So, put the kids to bed and enjoy another extremely watchable film TV series from everyone’s favorite Mexican director, Alfonso Cuarón.

It premieres October 11th on Apple TV+.
