ABBOTT ELEMENTARY finale found the staff and lower grade level children on an overnight field trip within the FRANKLIN INSTITUTE, Museum of Science, and Tech corridors. It was a recipe for captivating emotions that have been denied most of the season.
Janine (Quinta Brunson) still allows herself to be swayed by other people’s opinions. The utter angst and self-doubt were heartbreaking. The writers are allowing infinite possibilities to percolate over the summer hiatus. Baltimore is looking better and better. It was a different choice for where the sitcom will be headed next year. I liked the honesty and reality of the writing. Not everything is resolved overnight, especially after A NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM with alien faces.
I never used to wish for school to reopen, but in the case of ABBOTT ELEMENTARY, I can’t wait to hear that bell again. The “after-school crew” rules once more.
It is available to stream on ABC.
