Y: THE LAST MAN S1E1-E3 🤮

Y: THE LAST MAN is the greatest comic book ever made. There, I said it. However, it pains me to state the TV series is the biggest disappointment of 2021.

The plotline is all the men die, and women now run the world. You would think people would be singing, dancing, and loving in the street – but that’s not the case. The show inspires to be a doomsday apocalypse with shades of THE WALKING DEAD, but it’s not violent nor suspenseful enough to add anything new in that genre. Instead, it feels more like Guillermo del Toro’s failed adaptation, THE STRAIN. Horrible pacing, ridiculous exposition, and no characters to care about.

E1 THE DAY BEFORE

How it feels watching
Y: THE LAST MAN E1

The show starts with a fun action scene and then immediately goes into exposition mode. Unfortunately, about forty-five minutes of exposition doesn’t matter before the event happens, killing off all the guys. So stick around for the last five minutes, but you’ll feel like Milhouse for the rest of the time.

E2 WOULD THE WORLD BE KIND

Outside of a few kick-ass scenes with Agent 355 (Ashley Romans), we get Yorick (Ben Schnetzer) chasing after his monkey. Again, it’s an exposition dump with a cool cliffhanger finale. This is like network TV but with cussing.

E3: NEIL

Alright, we are not in an action apocalypse movie. Y: THE LAST MAN is a thinking trash piece like DEEP IMPACT, but worse. Why the hell do the creators think we care about politics and soap opera drama instead of any of the awesome action/suspense from the comic?

The first three episodes are available on Hulu.
