WECRASHED is based on a true story about the rise and fall of WeWork, a company that was supposed to change the world by creating fun, communal workspaces. It chronicles the greed, lust, love, and power that was the driving force behind the husband-and-wife team who created this start-up company.
Jared Leto is phenomenal in the lead role of Andy. Jared consumes the over-the-top energy that makes him appear frenetic, manic, and narcissistic. He wants his way in every aspect of the company, and he sees himself as a billionaire (even when his budget does not have the funds). He believes “to make money, you have to spend money.” Andy is very good at spending and not very good at executing business fundamentals. Rebekah (Anne Hathaway) is the other half of this wild, crazy, dynamic duo. She is more down-to-earth but continually is swayed by those around her. Rebekah lacks confidence in herself but is the positive force behind Andy. Anne demonstrates her emotional restraint and control as an actress.
Together, Andy and Rebekah wanted to “elevate the world’s consciousness.” The big question was: “Are you a maverick, a magician, or a muse?” This clearly defines their roles, no matter what they secretly wanted to be. At its peak, WeWorks made a fortune. The ensemble cast is powerful. The series takes you across the world. Costumes are fun since the episodes pull you back to past decades. Women’s roles in the workplace are touched upon, as well as corruption, bribery, and blackmail. It is a fast-moving series.
WECRASHED has three more episodes left to air. It is a money-making journey. Even though we know how it will end, it is mesmerizing and captivating, but I am hiding my wallet and retirement accounts.
It is available to stream on APPLE TV+.
