WE WERE THE LUCKY ONES S1E8 RIO 🤩

WE WERE THE LUCKY ONES completed its heartbreaking, bittersweet series. Watching the needless brutality at the end of WORLD WAR II punched a hole in my gut. I cried…I cheered…I celebrated with the Kurc Family. Their story belongs to everyone who has lost loved ones through the cruelty of war and the sheer tenacious triumph of surviving.

Halina (Joey King) was amazing. Her masterful scene of enduring hellacious pain was almost unbearable to watch. Her performances were gritty, raw, and far too realistic. The gunshots jolted me each time. Joey was a consummate actress to was able to express the myriad of emotions necessary for believability. I was in awe.

Addy (Logan Lerman) was phenomenal as well. There were moments when my soul soared right alongside him in his rowboat. Kudos to Logan and making me remember pure joy and the love of family.

WE WERE THE LUCKY ONES was a victory for every family who endured the Holocaust. It is historically important and necessary to relive and “never forget.” Kudos to the writers and the entire ensemble for creating such a brilliant reenactment of a dark time from our past. Thank you for the perfect ending to a difficult show to witness. I am hopeful as I lit my Memorial candle for Holocaust Remembrance Day. Family, love, and survival are the ultimate revenge. It is streaming on Hulu.
