Set in Tehran during the Iran-Iraq War, the backdrop of this film is arguably its most gripping aspect. Director Babak Anvari weaves the rich culture and folklore with elements of horror to tell a terrifying yet beautiful story. 

I appreciate those horror films that don’t end when the credits roll. I believe a successful horror movie leaves you thinking, peeling over the events of film over and over again. 

UNDER THE SHADOW accomplishes just that. Every scene, every moment, every shot oozes symbolism, and there is so much detail to pour over.
