THE SNOW SISTER will not be remembered as a beloved holiday film. This Norwegian movie is far too slow-paced and sad. Grief and loss are the main themes, although they are topics most people do not want to discuss or acknowledge. Two families are suffering. This is a tall order, even for believers in the mystical power of the unknown. In the end, it is a good start and inspirational.
The entire movie is dubbed in English. This can be limiting since audiences do not reap the benefit of hearing the actual actors who were cast. The message of THE SNOW SISTER was honest and very true to how humans of all ages can be seen and heard. It asked for a large portion of suspending disbelief. Perhaps this is why I finished the film. I am not sure, still. If you know an individual or a family going through a loss this holiday season, this film might help. It will gently soothe the rough, painful edges through its lulling tempo and eventual rediscovery of life.ย
THE SNOW SISTER is not a vomit nor a must-see piece of cinema. It is merely present, lying in wait if ever there is a need.
It is streaming on Netflix.
