THE RESIDENCE is pure Shondaland (Shonda Rhimes) entertainment. It is a quick-moving, action-packed who-done-it within the most famous residence all… the White House. It was awesome delving deep within the 132 rooms and 157 suspects. This mess could only be sorted out by the best festive in the world, Detective Cordelia Cupp (Uzo Adobo). It was a fun chase as she logically interviewed the eclectic staff filled with endless possibilities.
Adobo’s vast array of facial expressions, long monologues, birding tips, astounding energy, a stash of fish tin cans, and frozen stares are a delight. Her characterization is an enjoyable surprise at every twist and turn. I couldn’t stop binging the eight-episode series. I wanted more. I demand a season two. I hope the producers are reading this.
The entire madcap ensemble was priceless. Audiences never knew what they were going to say next. It was terrific to see Al Franklin back on the screen along with the irresistible Jane Curtain. “Your vodka will be up soon.” And I simply adored A.B. Wynter, played by Giancarlo Esposito. His stoic mannerisms were the best. It was a huge cast, but the writers managed to give everyone such distinctive personalities.
THE RESIDENCE will not disappoint if you are fond of this type of escapism. I thoroughly enjoyed every moment.
It is streaming on NETFLIX.
