“The reality is worse than the nightmare in Auschwitz. Don’t wake me up.”
THE PATIENT is almost over, and I am overwhelmed by its subtle intensity and horror. This show goes right for the jugular in more ways than I can say.
Alan (Steve Carell) is frightened beyond reason. His time is ticking down, and he is running out of options. He dreams in fitful nightmares and speaks with an illusional doctor. Watching him go through his ordeal puts me on edge and makes me want to express my “fight or flight” instinct. He can convey his captivity perfectly through his facial expressions and body language. I am caught in the same trap as him.
Sam (Domhnall Gleeson) is a scary dude. He speaks volumes with his long pauses and bizarre quirkiness. He is frightening in his quiet, unassuming way. Therapy is definitely not working. Brunch with Mary will not cut it, even if it is a “hail Mary with Mary.”
THE PATIENT has one more episode left. I fear this will end badly, but I am hopeful for rescue. I cannot stop watching. It is available to stream on HULU.
