THE LINCOLN LAWYER gave fans another great season filled with action, courtroom drama, and an intriguing cliffhanger for when it returns. This is one of the better legal thrillers, delivering authentic writing and fine acting from the entire ensemble. It was a treat to watch another one of Michael Connelly’s fabulous novels about Mickey Haller (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo) come to life on screen.
I have read every book in the Haller series and was so pleased that the TV series followed the book’s plotline closely. The writers captured the grittiness of this story while still sweeping audiences through more empathetic situations than normal. I felt their frustration and fear as they tried to manipulate the judicial system to get to the truth. I believed their anxious juxtaposition, not knowing sometimes where or how to move next. It was thoroughly entertaining, and each of the main characters grew immensely in their individual story arcs.
Audiences were privy to the softer side of “bending the law” as it unfolded in new and old relationships. Their struggles felt real, making for brilliant TV viewing. Kudos to all the directors and producers led by David E. Kelley and, of course, Connelly.
I have to give a shout-out to the powerful cast of characters. Mickey, you are a man of honor despite all your many “plans” and sometimes edgy temperament. “Legal,” you broke my heart. Lorna, I am so proud of you. It was great seeing you without your perfect mask. Cisco, your vulnerable side made you stronger than ever. Izzy, you proved to be more than just a driver. You deserve all the happiness you are discovering. Maggie, fans are hopeful. Hayley, you have matured in ways beyond your young years. For me, I felt like part of their immense family, except superbly played by Prosecutor Dana Berg (Justin, remember… baby).
THE LINCOLN LAWYER is one of my favorites, and I have looked forward to it for the past four years. Plus, I love knowing, by proxy, one of the writers and Executive Producers, Gladys Rodriguez. Bravo to everyone involved. The show is certainly worth the ride through LA, especially with the top down.
THE LINCOLN LAWYER is streaming on Netflix.
