Pamela Anderson will not be nominated for an Oscar, but that doesn’t stop her from giving a career-best performance in THE LAST SHOWGIRL. It makes me sad knowing that if it wasn’t for a certain sex tape that was leaked, audiences might have seen Anderson turn in more thoughtful and nuanced performances as she does here. It’s like this talented actress has a what-if scenario career audiences never got to see due to BARB WIRE and all the gossip and BS behind her personal life.
With that said, Anderson’s performance, along with the supporting cast (Jamie Lee Curtis and Dave Bautista), all shine in THE LAST SHOWGIRL. The film is a ninety-minute character study that doesn’t overstay its welcome and showcases the brutal world of growing older as a woman who relies on their beauty to make a living. It also gets into some weighty topics around our mothers and how they are not saints or saviors. That’s heavily explored as we see showgirls with kids trying to balance work and family and being a role model to their biological and show daughters.
If you have time next weekend, check out Pamela Anderson as she returns triumphantly to the big screen.
It’s opening in theaters on December 13th, 2024.
