THE DIPLOMAT will leave fans breathless with glee as they sit on the edge of their couch. All eight episodes whizzed by with lightning speed. The bantering was infused with new and familiar characters. It never got old. It is such a “talkie” show, leading with deliberate intentions and out-of-the-box surprises.
Kerri Russell as Kate and Rufus Sewell as Hal represent two of the most thought-provoking spies ever created. Their journey into the political domain was brilliant. It literally raised the calibre of the entire season. They are consummate actors who know how to squeeze every ounce out of subtle, explosive seconds. Viewers must stay sharp and be on their toes when watching. It is an intellectual delight sprinkled with sarcasm and witty retorts, all while sharing “the room where it happens” moments.
It was clever, creative casting to bring THE WEST WING back together by reuniting Allison Janney and Bradley Whitfield. What a total joy to see them trade hugs and biting barbs once on screen. I must also mention the ensemble’s strength. I would have to list everyone in the cast to give credit where credit is due. It is the incredible acting and writing that make THE DIPLOMAT feel authentic to life.
This season, there was an added plus of sexual tension. I can’t reveal who, but suffice it to say there were several very hot, lusty, passionate scenes that I am still replaying in my head. It was great fun to watch jealousy and yearning come to fruition. It will not disappoint.
THE DIPLOMAT is one of those rare political dramas that has superb acting, directing, editing, and writing. It changes the meaning of the word “Poseidon.” It will bring fans to their knees as they witness Kate’s emotional peak, and lead everyone to an evil cliffhanger no one will see coming. It is simply that good.
THE DIPLOMAT is streaming on Netflix.
