Overall Season Grade/Thoughts
JAMI: đ
TARUSH:đ â Agreed. The show started as a đ€©, but after reflecting on it, nothing much happened this season. If youâre looking for Boba, or even Cad Bane or Fennec Shand lore, check out the animated series THE CLONE WARS or THE BAD BATCH. I do love the techno teens, though.Â
AARON: Itâs more of a đ„± than a đ or đ€ź. Despite having two episodes to advance the STAR WARS universe in bold new directions, the overall journey isnât worth the destination. Nothing happens within BOBA FETT when the world doesnât revolve around Mando. I would watch chapters 4-6 and skip the rest.Â
Favorite Episode and why?
AARON:Â Chapter 6, FROM THE DESERT COMES A STRANGER. The best episode of the series also has nothing to do with Boba Fett.Â
JAMI: For me, itâs a toss-up between Chapter 2 and Chapter 6. What I loved about Chapter 2 was learning more about the Tusken Raiders and how they helped and trained Boba Fett and eventually welcomed as one of their own. Chapter 6, I know, is an audience favorite and yet doesnât have our titular character at all. But it does bring back a few other VERY popular characters from the movies, and current/future STAR WARS shows. In trying to remain âspoiler-free,â how could you not love this episode?! Itâs really got a lot of heart, and yet itâs still funny and informative even though it feels like it belongs to THE MANDALORIAN series far more than it does in THE BOOK OF BOBA FETT. Â
TARUSH: Just to go against the grain, I say Chapter 3, THE STREETS OF MOS ESPA. This episode got so much hate, but I loved the hints of political drama, the techno teens, and how STAR WARS it felt. I did love the Mando episodes, but Iâm not even counting that as part of THE BOOK OF BOBA FETT.
Least favorite episode and why?
TARUSH:Â I wish the show had focused on the politics of Tatooine, with a SUCCESSION or GAME OF THRONES like power struggle. And I think the reason that didnât happen was because Din Djarin was forced into this show. So for that reason, Chapters 4-6 have my vote â Disney shouldâve let Boba shine!
JAMI: Donât get mad, but I didnât like your favorite episode. Chapter 3, but not for the reasons that many others have discussed on social media. I like the mods and their bikes, so that wasnât a big deal for me â perhaps because I wasnât ever a big Power Rangers fan, I didnât make the connection. What bothered me about this episode was learning the fate of the Tuskens and some action scenes that just felt poorly choreographed. Iâd still give it a đ though. There werenât any episodes I hated.Â
AARON:Â I donât have as much love as yaâll do. For me, it was all the episodes with Boba Fett. So, E1-E3, and E7.
Season MVP CharacterÂ
JAMI:Â Â Fennec Shand is the co-MVP. She shares it with <major plot spoiler>.
TARUSH:Â This is a hard one â but Iâll go with Cad Bane. Honorable mention to THUNDERCATâS character, who we wouldnât have Fennec Shand without.Â
AARON:Â Mando, duh. đ
Letâs talk about the backlash â was it deserved?
JL:Â đ Star Wars fans just like to complain. We got a major series with two lead non-white actors, both over 50 years old, kicking ass. It was a lot of fun, but sure I think Iâd limit Robert Rodriguezâs involvement moving forward.Â
TM:Â 100% agree with Jami. The more STAR WARS lore, the better.Â
AARON: 100% disagree with both of you. The backlash is warranted. Look at what PEACEMAKER did with eight episodes and how little was achieved in seven laborious BOBA FETT ones.Â
Final Thoughts
JAMI: I enjoyed the series overall, but I didnât love the ending. The final episode was my 2nd least favorite, and it was pretty close. This may have been a stronger series with five episodes concentrated on Boba/Fennec and perhaps a bit of crossover with The Mandalorian. Instead, we got a show that seems to go off the tracks a bit â of the way through, at least in terms of the Boba Fett storyline. With more coming from THE MANDALORIAN, plus the yet-to-premiere AHSOKA and KENOBI series, Iâm sure this isnât the last weâll see of Boba Fett and Fennec. Â
TARUSH:Â This isnât the Boba Fett show I expected (world-building political mob drama), but I liked it. I really think the emphasis or need to tie THE MANDALORIAN into this was unnecessary, and maybe if there was more focus on the Pyke Syndicate, Cad Bane, and the Tusken Raiders, we couldâve had amazing lore that wouldâve filled in gaps and further built up the galaxy far, far away.Â
AARON:Â I kindly disagree with both of you. Even with five episodes focused on Boba Fett, I wouldnât be interested. This series shouldâve been a 90-minute movie. If the creators had done a âGreat Purgeâ of the first three chapters, followed by E4-E6, audiences wouldâve loved every second of them. As is, Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni shouldâve sent Robert Rodriguez to the Bacta tank so they couldâve stuck the landing.
The entire season is available on Disney+.Â
