THE BETTER SISTER is a limited series based on Alafair Burkeโs best-selling novel. The story, intense and definitely a thriller, takes audiences deep into the traumatized and estranged relationship between two sisters. These women are expertly portrayed by Nicky (Elizabeth Banks) and Chloe (Jessica Biel). The plot weaves itself around solving a brutal murder, a trial, and all the aftermath from years of separation and denial. I found myself unable to turn away.
What I loved about this show was the diverse range of women’s characters showcased. It was fascinating to observe how the police, the defense attorney, family, friends, and the CEO handled the investigation and the ensuing media fallout. The acting was subtle, using strong, intentional gestures and body language. I could identify with several of these role models. The pull to continually save the child was the primary impetus in every scene. The ensemble was strong and led audiences to a conclusion that may or may not be what they thought would happen.ย
THE BETTER SISTER continually raises the question of how much wealth influences our justice system. It was thought-provoking to consider how society judges our actions when we make poor choices. The writers forced viewers to look inward. Again, this was honestly expressed through the compelling dialogues that did not have all the answers. There were moments to ponder and reexamine our everydayย motives.ย
THE BETTER SISTER made me realize no one is better than the other. Itโs all about opportunity and timing. And yesโฆmoney.
THE BETTER SISTER is streaming on Prime Video.ย
