The latest episodes of THE BAD BATCH draw from their prequel trilogy roots – and I mean that in the best way possible. One of the most compelling pieces of world-building in the STAR WARS universe is the exploration of the political mess of the failing Galactic Republic and how the inactions and bureaucracy of the Senate contributed.
And if that doesn’t sound like animated STAR WARS fodder, I wouldn’t blame you – but I would gently remind you of the appeal of Filoni’s animated worlds. The seventh and eighth episodes of THE BAD BATCH greatly expand on the phase-out of clone troopers for the infamous stormtroopers. It reminds us that each clone is not only a unique person but also of Palpatine’s sinister manipulation of the Senate to authorize the troopers’ use in the first place.
Speaking of Palpatine – maybe it’s just the post-Trump presidency world we live in, but Palpatine’s charisma scares me almost as much as his dark side powers. Almost.
THE BAD BATCH is available to stream on Disney+.
