THE ALPINIST manages to not only capture the thrills of soloing but the very real people who take on the challenge. Peter Mortimer, who also worked on THE DAWN WALL, and Nick Rosen weave Marc-André Leclerc’s story beautifully.
Many of us have seen FREE SOLO – the Oscar-winning documentary. Conveniently, THE ALPINIST has Alex Honnold in the flesh to explain the gravity (no pun intended) of Marc-Andres’s ascents. I loved every moment of it – from the breathtaking vistas to the down-to-earth conversations with friends and family.
As an amateur climber (VERY amateur), it’s always fun to see spectacular climbing adventures; maybe that could be me someday! And documentaries like FREE SOLO and THE DAWN WALL seem to further exacerbate that excitement – yet, THE ALPINIST reminds us that high reward means taking high risks.
THE ALPINIST is now showing in theaters – and if you can and feel comfortable, watching this film on the big screen is definitely worth it.
