SUNNY S1E3 MMMM, HINOKI 😊

SUNNY is a unique, compelling series that deals with grief and solving mysterious airplane deaths. It juxtaposes humor with the ravages of loss and showcases the differences in how members of the same family approach the days that follow horrendous news.

The writers clearly state that there is “nothing normal about grieving.” Wearing pearls will not make anyone feel better, no matter how expensive they are. The content centers around Suzie (Rashida Jones) and a Sunny bot. Suzie must know the truth about her husband and son. At a moment’s notice, she will run out of her home wearing the strangest, bizarre (dare I say?) outfits. This always grabs my attention, especially if Suzie does not want to draw unnecessary attention. There seems to be much danger afoot, but maybe her superpower lies in her clothes. I would cross the street if I saw her coming towards me.

SUNNY is just getting warmed up. The plot is gritty and seems to rest in the underbelly of Japanese society. I  fear there will be several strange journeys yet to come. Violence and evil seem to be following and watching Sunny at every turn. I am in. Just let me change my shoes so I appear “normal.”

Sunny is streaming on Apple TV+.
