STAR TREK: STARFLEET ACADEMY is a huge disappointment. It is an embarrassment to STAR TREK’s 60-year legacy and to Trekkies everywhere. I watched three episodes of this new series, and now I want my three wasted hours back. Don’t make the same mistake I did by thinking it will get better, because it won’t.
I am a fan of Holly Hunter, who portrays the Captain and head of the Academy. Still, writers are literally throwing away her brilliant acting by either resorting to insipid dialogue or crafting a plot that feels like audiences are constantly dealing with a whack-a-mole situation. There are far too many holes. The story is small in scope and imagination compared to the past, when viewers were “going where no man has gone before…” I frankly don’t care about Caleb (Sandro Rosta). He can take off his shirt a hundred more times, but it still won’t make up for poor writing.
STAR TREK: STARFLEET ACADEMY is not worthy of your precious time. No amount of alien species roaming the halls, attending classes, or trying to create mischief can alter that concept. I hope it is not renewed for a second season just because it touts STAR TREK in its title.
It is streaming on Paramount+.
