SHOULD I MARRY A MURDERER? S1 REVIEW 🤮

SHOULD I MARRY A MURDERER? is a three-episode documentary that occurred in Glasgow, Scotland, in 2020 and took close to two years for some closure. It is loosely based on the story of the prior BBC documentary THE VANISHING CYCLIST.

SIMAM is not what anyone would expect. It feels more like a soap opera with a sad plot. Hopefully, none of us will ever need to ask ourselves this question. Hopefully, we can recognize the difference between right and wrong.  Loving the wrong person does not give anyone a pardon, especially when there is a murder. Ok, I will step off my soap box now.

The sordid tale was told from Caroline Muirhead’s point of view. She narrated most of the film, infused with interviews, clips, and dramatizations. She was difficult to listen to because she whined and, at times, was downright insufferable. Her capacity for repetitiveness was overwhelming. I wanted to empathize with her plight and the decision she had to make, but her emotional inconsistencies just made me roll my eyes. Her journey could have been much easier, but then this documentary wouldn’t have been made. Hmm.

I realize and accept that not everyone has the courage or strength to do what’s right. Some take longer to get to that moment, but I am glad for the progress she has made.

I am also confused by the Rotten Tomatoes critics. I would never give this series a 100% rating. The public’s number seems much more reasonable to get behind. (46%) I cannot say it is worth your time. I would rather have read a story online than sit through three hours of screen time.

SHOULD I MARRY A MURDERER? is streaming on Netflix.
