Aaron, Jami, and Esta take on the “it’s complicated” relationship status for S1 of PLATONIC here:

E1-E3 ๐Ÿ˜Š

“The zany comedy chemistry between Rose Byrne and Seth Rogan carries over from NEIGHBORS to their new TV series on Apple TV+. After three episodes, Iโ€™m okay with having an open relationship with the series, but not ready to define my relationship status and commit to the entire season.

– Aaron

E4 – DIVORCE PARTY ๐Ÿ˜Š

I donโ€™t feel the friendship chemistry between Sylvia and Will. The writers have these two characters shouting and disagreeing throughout most of their scenes together. For me, it gets old and is not funny. They are trying to be what they were in college, and the realization is not entertaining to watch. Perhaps I am just older and wiser.

– Esta

E5 – MY WIFE’S BOYFRIEND ๐Ÿ˜Š

PLATONIC is a relatable show for me that I quite enjoy. I think it also has a lot of potential, but so far, itโ€™s just good, not great. Even for a comedy, thereโ€™s a lot of genuine emotion brewing below the surface as two adults try to recapture the magic of their friendship made decades earlier. So far, itโ€™s more fluff than substance. Like its APPLETV+ predecessor, SHRINKING, I hope it gets to business soon.

– Jami

E6 – THE BIG TWO SIX ๐Ÿ˜Š

“PLATONIC continues to chug along with enough chuckles and heartfelt moments to earn viewersโ€™ time. Sadly, the source material isnโ€™t enough to launch it into the same category as WHEN HARRY MET SALLY.

– Aaron

E7 – LET THE RIVER RUN ๐Ÿ˜Š

“PLATONIC is caught in a cycle of brilliant and totally inane segments within this weekโ€™s episode. It is that topsy-turvy movement that has me in a state of confusion.

– Esta

E8 – SAN DIEGO ๐Ÿคฎ

“Thereโ€™s a lot of PLATONIC that Iโ€™ve found relatable, but SAN DIEGO is too far-fetched, even for a comedy. I understand that Will (Seth Rogan) and Syliva (Rose Byrne) are the leads here, but this weekโ€™s episode forces them both into a situation that no one would really ever find themselves in.

– Jami

E9 – SLUMBER PARTY ๐Ÿ˜Š

“PLATONIC offers really nothing new. It is what it is. Will argue and yells to make his point. Sylvia forgives everyone she meets. It is a simple premise that just doesnโ€™t make a difference in anyoneโ€™s life.

E10 – WHEN WILL MET SYLVIA ๐Ÿ˜Š

“E10 almost feels like PLATONIC knows it may not return. Characters moved on, and suddenly all of the messes created so far were cleaned up and put to rest. If the show returns for future seasons, I hope it finds a stronger focus point and gives us more than shallow quips about middle-aged life being hard.

– Jami
