I had high expectations for a MYTHIC QUEST Christmas special, and that lofty excitement came crashing down faster than a “720-plus-calorie” coffee. THE 12 HOURS OF CHRISTMAS should work. It has all the elements to make for a classic Christmas edition of TV. Yet, they don’t, and here’s why:
- David Brittlesbee – David Hornsby (also this episode’s director) perfectly portrays this middle-manager pushover. However, he should never be the centerpiece of an MQ episode. He’s too whiny to be the focal point.
- Funny – MQ is usually hilarious. And outside of a few funny moments with Rachel, Dana, and Brad. This episode desperately lacked humor.
Here’s what did work:
- JO (Jessie Ennis) – is this season’s breakout star. Her learning to “do friendship” is funny and heartbreaking #TankGirl.
- Brad – Danny Pudi is hands down the funniest actor on MQ. The delivery of this quote killed me 😂 – “I just love Christmas. It’s the one day of the year that everyone expresses their love financially. It’s the high holy day of capitalism.”
So with that, MQ has done a Christmas episode. The Results? There should’ve been more chili.
It’s available on Apple TV+.
