MY LADY JANE is a fun, fresh, new look at history from a different, magical paradigm. The series has all the elements to keep audiences delighted, excited, and entertained simply by tweaking the past. Let the binging begin.
The time reference for MY LADY JANE is during the reign of King Edward, son of Henry VIII. This is where the accurate historical timeline ends. From this period, the show frolics into a dramatic adventure with oodles of sarcastic, comedic relief. It showcases treason, treachery, lusty romance, true love, and tons of swashbuckling scenes. It teaches that none of us can judge someone by their looks. Everyone harbors huge, surprising secrets with fervor and glee. The writers opt for strong female characters that dominate the story. They made sure to be book smart and have a plan projects hope for the future. All of this could be heavy-handed if not for the brilliant, talented actors.Â
Emily Bader as Lady Jane and Edward Bluemel as Lord Guildford have enough hot chemistry together to ignite an entire forest. Their extra breaths while looking into each other’s eyes are sheer perfection. Their bantering and timing are merely foreplay, and viewers are putty in their capable hands. Anna Chancellor as Jane’s Mom, Dominic Cooper as Lord Seymour, and Kate O’Flynn as Mary portray the ideal antagonists. Their shenanigans keep everyone on their toes. But I must also give Kudos to everyone. It was just such a merry, mesmerizing journey fraught with potholes galore.Â
The costumes were gorgeous, extravagant, and authentic looking. There were several sparkling gowns I would love to wear for an evening out. The music was often modern and added to the intensity of the moment. The picture projected in each frame gave the fantasy life.
MY LADY JANE hinted where it would be headed in season two. Oh, I hope the creators are already fast at work with answers to Jane and Guildford’s escapades. I am already waiting with bated breath. Their kingdom still needs to repair their flawed society with love for all.Â
