MR. MALCOLM’S LIST ๐Ÿ˜Š

MR. MALCOLMโ€™S LIST is a period rom-com film that left me wanting. And I donโ€™t mean that in a good way. Iย usually adore this genre, but pretty costumes and lovely settings donโ€™t make up for witty dialogue and pacing.ย

I was happy with the BRIDGERTON appeal of blind casting. It was fun and worked well, but MR. MALCOLMโ€™S LIST is no BRIDGERTON or Jane Austin movie remake. It does not possess the sparkle and pizazz. Selina (Freida Pinto) is stunning in her role and quite fetching. Who wouldnโ€™t fall for her? But I found the rest of the ensemble a little shallow and one-dimensional. I needed more to suspend my disbelief and take the obligatory chase scene at the end. I must say MR. Malcolmโ€™s Mother (Dona Croll) was phenomenal in her supporting role. She played one tough lady, to be sure.ย

MR. MALCOLMโ€™S LIST is not bad. It just could have been something much more. It is a sweet, gentle look at the extreme plotting and conniving that went on to get a husband in the early 1800s. It wonโ€™t make you swoon or laugh out loud. It just is what it is. If you love these period pieces, you can attend the masquerade ball without reservation. As for me, I need more lust, longing, and love.ย

MR. MALCOLMโ€™S LIST is available to stream on-demand.
