LYD 🤩

LYD offers another viewpoint on Jewish/Palestine discussions and discord. It is a creative film based on the 1948 conflict surrounding the city of Lod/ LYD. The film uses sci-fi animation to tell the story from the city’s point of view. The historical clippings are authentic. The interviews with the ancestors of those who lived through those difficult times will make audiences wonder if there is a solution.

LYD was directed by a Jewish filmmaker, Sarah Ema Friedland, and a Palestinian, Rami Younis. Both were presented by Zoom for a Q&A afterward. Their opinions were a catalyst for thoughtful questions and feedback. The movie favored the Palestine viewpoint, and being shown at a Jewish Film Festival was controversial. The directors stressed the importance of listening to words that are hard to hear. The power and lure of hatred are too easy. The city of LYD could have been so much more. If only…

LYD presented a compelling account of one battle that led to so much destruction, deportation, and death. It was one opinion of what happened. How will it all end?

It played at the Spokane International Film Festival 2025.
