LOVE AGAIN is obviously a rom/com. It includes a fantastic ensemble but still misses the boat due to weak dialogue. This made me sad because the magnificent Celine Dion gave her voice and her song’s meaningful words to this film but in the end. It wasn’t quite enough.
I can say the movie was a delight for Celine’s fans. We have gone far too long without hearing and seeing her grace the stage. She was the best part of this story, as improbable as it may be. Listening to her talk about her grief at finding her love, Rene’, and losing him brought tears to my eyes. It was worth watching for just those authentic moments.
The chemistry between Mira (Priyanka Chopra Jones) and Rob (Sam Heughan) was insufficient. They are indeed two beautiful actors who looked most of the time very stiff when around each other. Yes, they both have spectacular smiles, but I needed more. I know the crux of LOVE AGAIN centered around some special texts, but perhaps it would have helped if they were a part of even more real conversations. I get it. Social media rules today’s world, but they need to loosen up more than just their thumbs.
LOVE AGAIN had oodles of potential, but Celine was the only thing that gave me joy. And for that reason, I am giving this film its final emoji. Without her, it would have been a 🤮.
