LESSONS IN CHEMISTRY S1E1-2 🤩

LESSONS IN CHEMISTRY is based upon the New York Times Best Seller novel by author Bonnie Garmus. The story follows the life of Elizabeth (Brie Larson), a wannabe scientist in the 1950s.

Two episodes premiered, and I am hooked. I loved the colors, the swing, the jazzy music, and the plight of Elizabeth trying to make her mark in a male-dominated field. “How many female scientists can you name from the past until this point in time? Uh…Madam Curie?” Women today stand on Elizabeth’s shoulders. It is obvious from the get-go how much emotional and sexual abuse they had to endure. Women who were brilliant and smarter than their male co-workers were forced to feel “less than.” Sad times, but very true to our culture and past.

The rate at which Elizabeth speaks is lightning-fast. There is a ton of chemistry jargon spewed back and forth. Those lines did go over my head, but amazingly, it did not detract from the show. There were several plot lines started about segregation, the plight of secretaries in the workforce, romance, and assault. Brie is stunning and dazzles in every frame. She is definitely who audiences are tuning in to watch.

LESSONS IN CHEMISTRY, I hope, will follow the original novel. There is much rich content between those pages that fans are anxious and excited about seeing it brought to the screen. I am, too. It is available to stream on Apple TV+.
