JULIA went on a special trip to the White House this week, but it ended up not being all she thought it would be…especially for women. It is easy to forget how turbulent and male-dominated the sixties were.
The writing was sharp and perfectly expressed. It truly hit home for the journey of Black America. There were moments I felt shame for history. Thank goodness for effervescent Julia. She always lifts my spirits with her kindness. This episode also nailed the plight of Blanche (Judith Light) and Avis (Bebe Neuwirth). It is tough being a strong woman when society wants to hold back. Kudos for inspiring seconds.
I also have to mention David Hyde Pierce as Paul. He is a man’s man who knows who is respectful and is proud of his place next to JULIA. The “Shadow Club” rocks!
JULIA’s finale is next week. I will be sad to say goodbye to such a well-done show. It is fascinating and entertaining to see how our past unfolds. “Let the games begin.” It is available on Max.
