HARRY AND MEGHAN SERIES REVIEW 😊

I disagree with other critics’ comments concerning the documentary HARRY AND MEGHAN. I may be in the minority, but I believe they accomplished their goal of sharing their life together. 

There is so much cynicism in the world today. The tabloids can pan HARRY AND MEGHAN until the “cows come home,” but in the end, the two of them seem to be smart, “normal,” and “head over heels” in love. The series “documents” that aspect thoroughly. The viewers are treated to many clips, photos, and interviews that show their admiration and trust for one another. It was personal, sweet, and appeared authentic. This is the best part of each episode…being able to witness their total commitment and love. I don’t think it was sappy or overtly saccharine. It just is. 

Here’s where I do think the series had a problem. It was long. Six episodes is too much, especially if audiences already knew their basic story. I understand that not much “new info” is offered as well. I, personally, did not expect to learn bold, groundbreaking facts. How could it? The “Institution” would have to break its “silent” treatment and release all the sordid details. Not ever going to happen. Their motto has always been to say nothing and move on. This is a shame. There can be no opposing side to HARRY AND MEGHAN’s story if no one else talks. And this is my other complaint about the series. It should not have been marketed as a documentary. It is simply their story and their side of the entire royal situation. I did enjoy hearing from Tyler Perry and learning his viewpoint. He seemed genuinely sincere, gracious, generous, and kind. I am impressed with him and all of Megan’s personal friends. 

Americans know how ruthless and sordid the tabloids can be. This is why we delineate true journalism from tabloid journalism, not so in the United Kingdom. This is the problem. Just because things are repeated does not make them true. Haven’t we learned that “alternate facts” are not facts? This would be an oxymoron for everyone. I am sad for Britain’s press and those who “believe” everything they read in our current society. 

HARRY AND MEGHAN should be retitled as WHEN HARRY MET MEGHAN …a love story.” This would have been totally true and kept all the haters away. I will always root for love.
