FOOL ME ONCE is based on the novel written by Harlan Coben. It is a fast-paced, action, murder mystery. The strength of the series lies in the acting talent of Michelle Keegan who portrays Maya. She carried the story and pushed viewers to stay with her along her grief and PTSD journey.
Two additional actors who helped elevate the script were Judith (Joanna Lumley) and Detective Kierce (Adeel Akhtar). They added the necessary shadowy twists and surprises along the way. The writing shines a light on the very wealthy vs. those who never seem to fit or feel they belong. There were stark, powerful moments throughout the series.
FOOL ME ONCE did contain plot holes and bounced the audience from different locations within a small English village. It was not always a smooth ride, but I felt intrigued watching. I wanted to know “who done it.” The payoff was shocking and bittersweet. This British show might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but I was satisfied in the end. It is streaming on Netflix.
