ESTA’S TOP MOVIES OF 2023

MY FAV 2023 Films was chosen for one or both of these reasons…the story and the acting. It doesn’t matter to me if the film is up for an Oscar or not. It’s all about whether or not the film touched my heart, taught me something, or stayed with me long after the final frame. The following movies are worthy of your time and attention and are in no particular order.

BARBIE – a pink-infused masterpiece that is delightful and fun to watch. There are memorable songs, production numbers, and a monologue filled with truth and perfection. BARBIE is the billion-dollar people’s choice.

THE HOLDOVERS – a beautifully written story featuring teenage and adult angst. It brushes across the depth of loss and grief. It is cathartic and in the end inspiring.

ORIGIN – A film that makes the audience work with the writers to connect the dots and make viewers think. It is simply brilliant and touching.

AMERICAN FICTION – a sarcastic and snarky look at the writer’s world. It is honest, authentic, humorous, and shoots a shocking conclusion.

OPPENHEIMER – a historical look at our past. It is long, and stunning in cinematography, acting, and content. Sheer perfection.

PAST LIVES – an unusual love story from start to finish. There used to be so much said within the silent beats.

RUSTIN – it is good to get the real story behind a once-in-a-lifetime event. The film is understated, yet packs a powerful message that will be remembered.
