ENGLISH TEACHER continues to be uneven in its delivery of weekly episodes. The show’s strength lies in the topics and the depth of the writer’s willingness to go. FIELD TRIP was more fluff, while LINDA was spot on with the conundrum most teachers face today when grading their students’ work.
Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed both installments, but the latest one just was more authentic and emotionally honest when dealing with students and their parents. Evan (Brian Jordan Alvarez) projected the perfect mix of angst, panic, and calm control within his vocal tone and pitch. He was thoroughly believable even when he was slightly over-the-top. Brian is the glue that holds this comedic series together. He connects the laughs with the many serious, sensitive topics.
ENGLISH TEACHER is necessary because it shines a light on a specific area that most people would not even begin to understand. In its own sarcastic, unique way, it brings about more connectivity within today’s society.
ENGLISHÂ TEACHER is streaming on Hulu.Â
