Whether it is EMILY IN PARIS, Rome, or Venice, they all feel the same. Emily (Lily Collins) can travel to any stunning location, wear a gorgeous, designer outfit, fall in and out of love, and the plot would not change one iota. This is a fluff series and not to be examined under a microscope. It is exactly what it professes to be…a romantic, sexy, drama/trauma series that should be enjoyed with plenty of popcorn and expensive wine or champagne.
The writers have made sure not to tax anyone’s brain in the creation of each story arc. It is what it is. No more. No less. If this is what your heart aches for, then tune in and be prepared to be dazzled by oodles of exquisite clothes and accessories. It is genuinely not believable, but then no one ever said it would be. Remember, all is fair when it comes to love and running a marketing/PR office. All any of them have to do is look great while displaying a happy face.Â
I enjoyed Mindy’s (Ashley Park) musical performances this season the most. She was given more songs to belt out. This girl has some serious chops. Sylvie’s (Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu) character had more airtime, sharing all her tales of woe and many lovers. Did it add to the story? No. Again, not necessary because everything will eventually work out. This is the nature of Darren Star’s (SEX IN THE CITY, AND LIKE THAT…) creation. It just isn’t as witty or as well-written as SEX IN THE CITY.Â
EMILY IN PARIS does have an audience. Some adore this type of adventure/romance story. I will pass. I need to see and feel more depth in a self-discovery journey, even with all the stunning couture. Emily ended with a cliffhanger. Please, say another season is not in the making.
It is streaming on Netflix.
