DEAF PRESIDENT NOW! 🤩

DEAF PRESIDENT NOW! is a powerful, well-done documentary covering the student protest and subsequent revolution in 1988 at Gallaudet University, the only deaf college in the world.  The entire action of the film covered only one week, but the silent words had such an impact that they changed how the hearing community viewed people who are deaf forever. This event was the catalyst for the Americans with Disabilities Act.

DEAF PRESIDENT NOW! took viewers back to a forgotten historical moment through authentic clips and interviews with those who were there. Being seen and not needing to be fixed or cared for began the Gallaudet student body’s journey. At times, their revolt was chaotic, but their mission prevailed. The dialogues were honest as the former students shared their insights into how they felt, what they did wrong, and how they achieved their goal.

DEAF PRESIDENT NOW! is a feel-good movie. The emotional angst was palatable. I wish I had protested with them, but then I realized this was something the deaf community had to do. It was their time to be heard.

DEAF PRESIDENT NOW! is streaming on Apple TV+.
