COME SEE ME IN THE GOOD LIGHT, a documentary film about Andrea Gibson and their wife Megan Falley, is the best love story I’ve ever witnessed. It’s a love story that encapsulates all of life- the fear, anxiety, grief, comfort, and HUMOR! Oh, the humor! Laughter so loud it makes you hold your stomach and need to sigh afterward. And the camera catches it all.
I first heard Andrea’s poetry about twenty years ago. Today, when I listen to them with my AirPods in, I’m still stopped in my tracks. They turn my mundane tasks of everyday living into magic. I have to catch my breath and wipe my face before resuming, changed.
In the camera’s close-ups of snuggly socks, sweet dogs slowly closing their eyes, and breathtaking scenery, this film is not unlike listening to one of Andrea’s poems. It is a jump start to the heart.
The beanies, fires, and hot tea are brought to the next level of comfort when seeing so many of “my people” involved. During Andrea’s last live public performance, about a year before their passing, we get Glennon Doyle and Abby Wambach’s real-time reactions from the audience, Tig Notaro’s dry, hilarious teasing before they go on, and Meg’s comment, “You better be lighting.” My little heart was on fire. We even get a sweet serenade of both Sara Bareilles and Brandi Carlye during the credits. So goddamn beautiful.
Before their passing, I followed Andrea’s Substack, “Things that Don’t Suck.” Pure medicine. And now, Meg has taken it over. We are here with her in her grief, witnessing her entries as works of art with lines such as, “The moon never changes. It’s only us, turning, who call it half or full.” We love you, Meg. You said you couldn’t do it without Andrea. You’re doing it.
To have a love like that for any amount of time on this earth, and to share it with the world in the form of this gorgeous film, is a gift. Thank you. Not many films make my husband and me feel compelled to get up, move closer, and hold hands while watching. During this film, I didn’t hold his hand, I clutched it, like it was important – because it was.
COME SEE ME IN THE GOOD LIGHT is available on Apple TV on November 14, 2025.
