CHUCKY is absolutely my favorite TV show of the season. This week we’re brought up to speed on what our other favorite characters, Tiffany (possessing actress Jennifer Tilly’s body) and Nica, have been up to since the season 1 finale. The answer is as deliciously ridiculous and fun as the rest of the series. Don Mancini, the franchise creator, should be applauded for his ability to world-build and successfully combine the plot points of all its previous entries.
Jennifer Tilly should not be forgotten come award season for the best comedic performance category. The Oscar nominee is a true delight to watch, and it’s clear Mancini has nothing but love and admiration for the quirky, iconic actress. She performs a perfect balancing act of sympathetic dreamer and batsh*t psychopath, and it’s clear she’s having fun doing so.
Our favorite three would-be delinquents, Jake, Devon, and Lexy, find themselves in danger once again, now within the confines of a Catholic school for wayward children, and Chucky seems to be up to some new tricks this time around. He’s hell-bent on getting revenge against them, and Tiffany and I can’t wait to see what he’s up to.
Devon Sawa is also back this season (thank God!); this time, they recast as a character even more menacing than the first season: a Catholic priest!
Speaking of Chucky, the doll animatronics look incredible this season. They also looked great last year, but the production value has gone up, which means more articulate puppets and even better special effects. His facial expressions and movements are more fluid this time around, plus it’s always fun to see Chucky give someone the finger.
The series continues to impress as we are introduced this week to all-grown-up Glen/Glenda, Chucky, and Tiffany’s non-binary child first presented in SEED OF CHUCKY. I can’t wait to see what they’ve been up to!
CHUCKY airs on the SYFY Channel. (I’m watching it on Sling TV because I don’t have cable—season 1 is also available on PEACOCK.)
