BLOCKBUSTER S1 REVIEW 🤮

BLOCKBUSTER is a series about the people working in the only Blockbuster video store in the country. It follows their journey as to how they tried to be relevant within our advanced tech world.

It is a shame that the comedic ensemble’s talents are wasted within so many predictable episodes. I hold the writers guilty of trying way too hard to produce laughs. It was definitely a “battle” of one-liners going up against each other. What a shame when you have the talents of Randall Park, Melissa Funero, and J.B. Smoove within your cast. Sometimes the pacing was so machine-gun fast; it just wasn’t normal or entertaining. It was almost like they were all playing an improv game, trying to “top” each other. But in this case, nobody won—what a loss.

BLOCKBUSTER should have, would have, could have, but didn’t. The series had a wonderful theme of promoting small businesses within our communities. It made the point over and over how important human connection is in our current world. We all agree, but sadly this was not the place or time. Just because the store is the “last dinosaur” does not make it more likable.

BLOCKBUSTER was disappointing because it was so foreseeable. There really were no surprises, and that is what keeps an audience coming back. It did, however, end with a cliffhanger. I think they should just let it go.

BLOCKBUSTER is available to stream on Netflix.
