It’s about to get a bit “nippy” for Saul and/or Gene (Bob Odenkirk) in the latest episode of BETTER CALL SAUL. After the last few installments, the creators wisely slow things down with glorious black and white cinematography on what Gene has been up to at the mall.

NIPPY almost feels like a stand-alone episode. By itself, it’s a good fifty minutes of TV. However, it has the unfortunate challenge of following two of the greatest episodes of BCS. So, with that nit out of the way for this smaller edition , let’s talk about what works:

  1. The Heist – A low-tech mall heist is at the center of this week’s episode, and it’s the perfect “sticky” situation for our favorite Cinnabon employee.
  2. Carol Burnett – She’s splendidly cast as a feisty older woman that Gene befriends. It’s a blast watching her comedic timing with Bob Odenkirk.
  3. Damn it, Jerry! – OMG, it’s Jerry (Garry Gergich) in a surprising role this week as the Cinnabon sinner.

To sum it up: E10 has just enough empty calories to keep audiences full until next week when we hopefully learn more about where Saul’s story will end.

It’s available on AMC+.
