AGATHA ALL ALONG S1E8-E9 🤮😊

E8 FOLLOW ME MY FRIEND / TO GLORY AT THE END 🤮

My ability to enjoy the penultimate episode of AGATHA ALL ALONG was partly based on how I feel about E7. Patti Lupone was incredible in that episode, and I enjoyed the full-circle arc it brought her character, Lilia. The episode also perplexed and confused me with just about everything else. The Salem Seven were built up the entire series and tossed aside, wasted. I’m still unclear on who or what Aubrey Plaza is, what her powers are, and why she seems to just come in and out of the episodes on convenience.Ā

I hoped that E7 would answer some of these questions, but it was a more strange and confusing choice. The Witches Road doesn’t seem to have any strict rules, even though Agatha and the coven she brought together when the series started stated otherwise. Characters are seemingly killed, but maybe they’ve just gone to another realm? Or perhaps they’ll turn back up as if they were never in danger at all. We know that Agatha and Rio (Plaza) have a long history, but it’s never fully fleshed out. I like the arc with ā€œTeen,ā€ but when what he was searching for on the road was finally revealed, it just didn’t seem to be heading to that end.Ā  One more episode to go!Ā

E9 MAIDEN MOTHER CRONE 😊

AGATHA ALL ALONG started strong, and I had very high hopes for it as it progressed. After having some inklings that it wasn’t headed in a great direction, E7 pretty much put the nail in the coffin, so to speak. That is why, here, in the end, I’m having a hard time coming up with what I enjoyed about it. First things first. It had a great cast, and everyone was perfectly cast. On the flip side, I didn’t like what they did to Mrs. Hart (Debra Jo Rupp). It was mean and unnecessary. Perhaps it was to remind the audience that Agatha is an antagonist, not any kind of heroine. And then there’s Aubrey Plaza, who did her best at what was given, but she played a confusing character with no arc and ultimately was part of a storyline that somewhat just dissolved.Ā Ā

I loved the look of the Salem Seven at the start and the danger they represented. I wanted so much more of them. We had all this build up and then… nothing. MAIDEN MOTHER CRONE is a good self-contained episode that should have never been the finale. Will there be a S2 of this series? It sure doesn’t feel like it, so why end it with all this backstory? And why give us all this backstory to never really tell us why Rio did what she did?Ā

And then we have Teen, aka #nospoilers. We finally found out what he wanted from the Witches’ Road and then… nah? While his story entertained me, I’m still not convinced it made any sense. After the events of WANDAVISION, with Wanda leaving Westview (and eventually dying in DOCTOR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS), everyone under her spell returned to who they were before. Yet because of ā€œmagicā€ (or whatever), we’re just going to slide in here that some things from the spell can continue but not others. As a comic book fan, strange things happen all the time on the pages. Characters die, come back to life, are reborn, and change identities, but there’s a reason a lot of that isn’t adapted 100% to film and TV. I wanted to love this show, but I’m left scratching my head with more questions than answers. I do wish we’d get another season of SHE-HULK, though.Ā
