ACAPULCO is back! The first season of this Apple TV gem was criminally under-watched, and I have a feeling that it’s due to subtitles. It is a light-hearted, feel-good comedy in the same category as TED LASSO, but it has the flashback narrator style of one of network TV’s best sitcoms, HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER.
Last season I wrote, “There’s a reason that ACAPULCO has a 100% fresh score on ROTTEN TOMATOES. If it’s true that “what the guest wants the guest gets,” then sign me up to be a guest for more seasons of this lovable can’t-miss series.”
I’m thankful that season two tells more complicated stories with the same comedic timing as season one. Episode two is the stronger of the two-episode premiere, yet E1 helps set everything up cleverly while reminding the audience what happened last season. It’s going to be fun watching how young Maximo grows from being a pool boy into a successful adult. Also, I’m looking forward to seeing how the always-funny Will Sasso (Joe) fits into the current-day narrative with adult Maximo.Â
The first two episodes of season two are available on Apple TV+.Â
