ABBOTT ELEMENTARY hit a bullseye for how to celebrate Mother’s Day. It was funny, bittersweet, and loving for everyone, but especially for Barbara (Sheryl Lee Ralph) and Gregory (Tyler James Williams). The writers were smart and creative to shine a light on triggers during celebratory moments.
MOTHER’S DAY is not just for the female gender. It is rather a feeling of belonging and connection. These can be shared on any day with some of the most surprising people. This was Janine’s (Quinta Brunson) outrageous revelation. What I loved the most was how the actors took viewers from being overwhelmed to a state of “okayness” once more all within minutes. It was a truthful, authentic episode for all of us who don’t know how to celebrate Mother’s Day. Kudos.
The beauty and power of ABBOTT ELEMENTARY lies within its simplicity of storytelling. It takes ordinary situations, twists them around, and brings all of us home to feel good once more. Thank you, Abbott. It is streaming on Hulu.
