YOUR FRIENDS AND NEIGHBORS was a wistful walk down memory lane of how things could have been, but aren’t. Then reality hits, and in a millisecond, life explodes, reinforcing that bad choices can catch up, destroying the bubble forever.
Most of the episode belonged to John Hamm and Amanda Peet. This former husband and wife made it all look effortless and authentic. The writers helped audiences really see this duo in another decade. It was funny and heartfelt until it wasn’t. I predict a massive clean-up is coming. It is tough because the writing has led fans in a certain direction. I have no expectations. When a person shows you who they are, believe them, said a very wise Maya Angelou.
YOUR FRIENDS AND NEIGHBORS does not create empathetic pathways. This is why it is compelling storytelling with a fantastic cast who know how to play their character. I am grateful I don’t walk a mile in their designer shoes.
