WHAT IF…S1E3 WHAT IF THE WORLD LOST ITS MIGHTIEST HEROES? ๐Ÿ˜Š

What ifโ€ฆ Disney stopped churning out Marvel shows for long enough to think: Do we really need this show or are we just releasing it for the sake of having content?

WHAT IF three episodes in just isnโ€™t really engaging me as much as I want it to. I love so many of these characters and yet I just find myself disinterested in these stories. EP 2 featuring Tโ€™Challa as Star Lord was moderately better for me than EP 1 or 3, although I found the alternative Thanos to be ludicrous.

Again, as I said during my EP 1 review, I am not impressed with this animation YET the show is beautifully drawn. Each screenshot or publicity shot you may see online, including the one here, is gorgeous. The animation is strongest during shots of characters talking or moving slowly, but when the action hits, it just falls apart for me. It feels like theyโ€™re going for a moving comic book, but that style feels so flat and superficial in 30-40 minute increments.

WHAT IF EP 3 has an interesting yet faulty premise – What if someone was systematically killing off the Avengers 1 by 1? This doesnโ€™t work for me because it removes the โ€œsuperโ€ from those who are supposed to be the best of the best on earth. If theyโ€™re so great, how could they be so easily killed off? Sure, it might be easier to kill the Avengers who donโ€™t have powers or a special suit, but others do and heck – one is a god! The resolution of this episode was just so silly to me, more of a WHAT THE HELL than a WHAT IF.

Yes, itโ€™s great to get the gang back together and I am enjoying hearing the voice cast which features almost everyone from the MCU films, but beyond that, Iโ€™m just a bit bored with the whole premise of this show. What ifโ€ฆ Disney+ surprises me before the season ends with something I find spectacular? Now that would be Marvel…ous.

WHAT IF EP 1-3 are now streaming on Disney+. Stay tuned each week for a review of each new episode.
