WE WERE THE LUCKY ONES continually tugged at my heart from the opening line to the devastating final frame of the episode. WORLD WAR II is exploding everywhere, and “everyone is running for their lives.”
The brilliant writing allows the talented ensemble to explore and express the horrors and horrific conditions. “Survival is fighting,” and the Kurc family is facing death and hope within each minute of their days. The superb cast can show the depths of terror within their eyes. It is chilling to watch and hear the cascade of bombs descending. It makes me pause and wonder if I could have been as brave. I worry about six-year-old Felicia. I think about being unable to move in trenches hearing the pop, pop, pop of gunfire all around. I marvel at the montage of Addy’s new music composition juxtaposed against every family member fighting for their lives. Each installment is draining, but I must watch and witness.
WE WERE THE LUCKY ONES concludes next week. Viewers will finally see who survived. I am rooting for this family, and I want all of them to find some form of peace and be able to move forward. It is must-see TV. and streaming on Hulu.
