Although, unfortunately, many viewers (including myself) may watch TO LESLIE due to the controversy over Andrea Riseborough’s Best Actress nomination, it’s fortunate that the movie is 100% worth watching. I was expecting a heavy, heart-wrenching drama but was pleasantly surprised by a surprisingly optimistic story. When you’re at your absolute lowest, resilience and self-reliance can get you only so far; you can only begin thriving when someone truly believes in you.
TO LESLIE follows the titular Leslie six years after her lottery win, caught in a vicious cycle of addiction. The film is hard to watch; it plays out as a character study that hinges on Andrea Riseborough’s performance – and she delivers. Although the movie is further bolstered by the supporting cast, especially Marc Maron, Riseborough brings this Schitt’s-Creek-but-serious drama to life. If you’re looking for a solid, heartfelt movie that thrives in emotional moderation, watch TO LESLIE.
TO LESLIE is now available to rent or buy wherever you get your movies.
