In the past, Iāve said, āOh no, not another Kate episode!ā Well, afterĀ SATURDAY IN THE PARKĀ and this weekās KATOBY, itās no longer true. Kate (Chrissy Metz) and Toby (Chris Sullivan) continue to get āknocked down, but they get up againā in E12, which plays like SCENES FROM A MARRIAGE.Ā
Iām treading lightly on revealing the plot details of KATOBY, but if youāve been following along since last season, youĀ shouldĀ know by now whatās in store for them. So please stop reading if you are not caught up on last weekās episode.
Great. With that out of the way, divorce is f*cking hell. Whether youāre married to a good or bad person doesnāt matter since the actual process and outcome destroys even the strongest people. And thatās what makes watching Kate and Toby unravel all the more devasting. They are both good people reliving a different version of the same fight daily. That version of GROUNDHOGāS DAY is no way to live.
As a soon-to-be dad, Iāve reflected more on my own life. āLife would be so much simpler if we could live it backward.ā Yet, thatās not how it works. The glimpses of a marriage falling apart in KATOBY again brought me to š, but in a good way.Ā
I still canāt believe we will be hitting the end of the Pearsonās journey soon. When that time comes, Iāll have to find a new way to heal. But until then, āthis is not how their story endsā¦ā
Itās available on NBC and Hulu.Ā
