THE SURVIVORS is a brilliant, limited series that takes place in a small Australian town. The location is picturesque, but the story is intense and compelling. The writers made sure to dredge up the truths and lies surrounding a fifteen-year cold case while trying to solve a recent murder. The beauty of the series lies in the emotional upheaval that accompanies both old and new death. It’s riveting and well-done if you enjoy solving mysteries.Â
I binged this series. I needed to know the outcome, and I was also deeply invested in the cast and how well they acted and reacted as actors. Their performances were subtle, yet powerful. Their pain, shame, guilt, and grief took my breath away. They screamed, walked away, hid in video games, wept, and clung to each other. It felt authentic and exactly how any community would try to put the pieces back together. Â
Rotten Tomatoes gave THE SURVIVORS a 100% rating. This does not happen too often, but I would agree that it is a slice of humanity not seen at its best. It edges around that double gender standard. It evokes feelings that most would want to keep buried. The payoff was intense and haunting. If this is your genre, you won’t be disappointed.Â
THE SURVIVORS is streaming on Netflix. Â
