Seth Rogen’s latest TV series, THE STUDIO, combines BIRDMAN-like intensity, Aaron Sorkin-ish dialogue, and BABYLON-like music. That blend makes for a perfect Hollywood insider look showcasing the exaggerated narcissistic lunacy that goes on when making movies. Audiences love for this show will depend on two things:
- Seth Rogen – Do you enjoy hearing Seth Rogen’s awkward laugh on repeat? In THE STUDIO, you will listen to a LOT of it. That’s because he’s the central character.
- Hollywood – This show is all about insider information. It’s THE PLAYER meets SAUSAGE PARTY, and there are a slew of references that, if you are not in the industry, you will not get.
With that out of the way, E2 is officially in contention to be in the top ten “Oners” of all time. It’s sheer brilliance. While E1 sets up the season with a ragtag group of supporting characters that the audience can cheer on. Standouts so far are Kathryn Hahn as the coffee-guzzling marketing guru Maya and the sad-dominant Sal Saperstein, played by the underutilized Ike Barinholtz.
I’ve had the opportunity to watch the entire first season of THE STUDIO, and it’s safe to say that the series knows how to deliver a good “bookend” that should be remembered as some of the best TV in 2025.
The first two episodes premiere on 3/26 on Apple TV+.
